Dr Mawbey is a practising Consultant Sports Neuropsychologist and the founder of the Sports Neurpsychology Clinic. She is the only Sports Neuropsychologist registered with the Sports Neuropsychology Society, in the United Kingdom.

She practices in Neuropsychology and Neurohabilitation services as a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist in the NHS and is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS) through which she is a member of two specialist divisions: the Division of Neuropsychology and the Division of Clinical Psychology. She is also the only practising accredited member of the International Sports Neuropsychology Society in the UK and one of only a handful in Europe.

Dr Mawbey is an accredited Practitioner Psychologist with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC). She adheres to the best practice standards and policies set forth by the BPS and HCPC. In her clinical work Dr Mawbey follows best-practice guidelines for assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of neurological disorders and injury and mental health difficulties established by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE).


Dr Mawbey has worked within several busy London hospitals and centres of national and international excellence. She has worked under the supervision of leading experts within the field and has received gold standard training in neuropsychological assessment and neurorehabilitation both in paediatric and adult settings.

These roles include working in coveted National and Specialist services including the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, within the University College London Hospital (UCLH) trust and the South London and Maudsley Hospital in conjunction with the Institute of Psychiatry. She has also worked within Imperial College Trust in neurology and neuropsychology settings at Charing Cross Hospital and within hospital and outpatient settings in the Camden and Islington Foundation Trust. Dr Mawbey also led the Clinical Health and Neuropsychology department for the London Borough of Brent in the community neurorehabilitation services for a year and a half.

Dr Mawbey currently acts as Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist and Acting Clinical Manager for Clinical Neuropsychology in rehabilitation at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust where she leads and manages a busy team of Neuropsychologists and supervises their input across rehabilitation teams.

She completed her Paediatric Neuropsychology training at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.

Inpatient Work
Dr Mawbey leads the the Clinical Health, Neuropsychology and Neuropsychiatry service for a busy North London borough, providing care across three inpatient units, including a specialist neurorehabilitation stroke unit and two elderly medicine rehabilitation wards. She is also responsible for leading clinical health and neuropsychology provision in the community to individuals that require rehabilitation psychology services within their homes.

Dr Mawbey has previously provided Neuropsychology input for a 10-bed inpatient neurorehabilitation unit at the National  Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, primarily for patients with stroke and acquired traumatic brain injuries, but also including degenerative conditions (i.e. Multiple Sclerosis), neurological conditions such as brain tumours and Guillain-Barré syndrome and spinal cord injury. Her work entailed conducting neuropsychological and psychological assessment and interventions and cognitive rehabilitation.

Dr Mawbey’s specialist interest in acquired brain injury led her to working in an Acute Brain Injury Unity (ABIU) and acute Neurosurgery inpatient wards, providing neuropsychological consultation, assessment and rehabilitation to those who have experienced acquired brain injuries.

Community and Outpatient Work
Dr Mawbey has worked in several community neurorehabilitation services, providing diagnostic neuropsychological assessment, cognitive rehabilitation and psychological therapies to individuals with neurological, neurological and chronic physical health conditions, including traumatic brain injuries, brain tumour, hypoxic brain injuries, stroke and neurological conditions including multiple sclerosis, dementia, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson’s disease and motor neuron disease.

She leads the Clinical Health and Neuropsychology service within a busy community neurorehabilitation team in North London.

Consultation and Teaching
Dr Mawbey provides teaching, consultation and liaison to individuals and associations working with clients and their families who have neurological injuries or conditions.

She is responsible for the supervision of Band 7 and Band 8A Specialist Clinical Psychologists and Neuropsychologists.


Sports Neuropsychology is a specialist field with close ties to Clinical Neuropsychology and Sports Psychology. Dr Mawbey is one of a handful of practising Sports Neuropsychologists who work with athletes and their affiliates to promote psychological and neuropsychological well-being in sport. 

Dr Mawbey is Consultant Sports Neuropsychologist and founder of the Sports Neuropsychology Clinic within which she holds a specialist Boxing Clinic.  Dr Mawbey has longstanding links within sport, and particularly boxing, and is acutely aware of the politics and challenges faced by athletes and their teams. She aims to provide affordable, impartial advice and consultation for athletes and organisations within sport, so that appropriate support can be accessed from amateur to professional levels.

Dr Mawbey's Sports Neuropsychology Clinic provides expert and confidential neuropsychological and clinical assessment and rehabilitation, psychological support, advice and consultation and case management for athletes. She works closely with occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, psychiatry and rehabilitation assistant colleagues where indicated, and can make onward referrals for private services from experienced professionals, where appropriate.  


Dr Mawbey has worked in leading research institutions of excellence as part of her continued commitment to providing high quality contributions to the fields of Clinical Psychology and Clinical Neuropsychology research. She previously worked as a Trial Coordinator, leading two large-scale multi-site international and national research trials through the South London and Maudsley NHS trust and the Anna Freud Centre.

Dr Mawbey has further conducted neuropsychological research in world-renowned research settings including the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience at University College London and at Great Ormond Street Hospital, where she completed her doctoral thesis research.
